Police cordon off Ryde Pier following incident involving distressed person
Hampshire Police are attending an ongoing incident on Ryde Pier tonight (Tuesday). A number of officers are currently on scene at the historic pier where they are understood to be talking with a distressed individual. A search has carried out by the coastguard search and rescue team under the pier. A Coastguard search and rescue team from Bembridge and a lifeboat from Ryde Inshore rescue have also been sent to assist officers from the island’s police. UPDATE:2310 Police have managed to successful talk the man down from ledge of pier and he has is unharmed. Officers have taken the man away to a “place of safety” to received help from a partner agency on the Islands. The Wightlink catamaran services are affected by the incident and remains running to time.
