Police bust and close Snodland drug house

A Snodland property associated with persistent drug activity and anti-social behaviour has been issued with a closure order.

Kent Police applied for the order at Maidstone Magistrates’ Court following concerns raised by residents about an address in Constitution Hill. The closure order, using powers under the Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014, will last three months – from 19 June until 19 September 2020. It makes it an offence for anyone to enter the property during this time.

Penalties for breaching the order include a fine and up to 51 weeks in prison. Local officers have ensured the privately-owned property was vacated by its residents and secured it against any unauthorised entry. A sign has been placed on the door with a warning that it is an offence to enter.

Inspector Jon Turtle, of the Tonbridge and Malling Community Safety Unit, said: ‘Residents who live in the road, including families with young children have endured persistent anti-social behaviour, often involving groups of people visiting the property, at all hours. There have been frequent complaints around drugs use and constant noise, as well as related criminality within the surrounding area, including the supply of Class A drugs and begging outside a local shop. Ultimately, these types of issues can make people’s lives a misery.

We are grateful for the support shown by both residents and our partner agencies and we will continue to actively pursue orders on other properties if they are associated with ongoing incidents of anti-social behaviour or drug activity.’
