Greater Manchester Police in Prestwich are urging witnesses to come forward after an 84-year-old woman was targeted in a theft at Our Lady of Grace Church on Fairfax Road. The incident occurred on Monday, October 16, 2023, at approximately 11:54am
The victim was followed to her local church by a male and female duo. Upon entering the church, the perpetrators confronted her at the centre of the establishment. While one of the offenders engaged the elderly woman in conversation, the other reached into her handbag and took an envelope containing £500. Both individuals swiftly left the church together, leaving the victim alone.
Authorities have released images of the suspects and are appealing to the public for assistance. Anyone who recognises the individuals or was in the vicinity during the incident is urged to come forward and share information with the police.
Detective Inspector Emma Stevens stated, “This is a despicable crime targeting a vulnerable elderly woman within the confines of her church. We are determined to identify those responsible and bring them to justice.”
