In a tragic incident on Saturday morning, two horses lost their lives after a hit-and-run collision on the M25 motorway. Police are now seeking witnesses to assist in their investigation.
The incident took place between junctions 24 and 25 at approximately 08:50 prompting an immediate response from authorities. Reports indicate that a dark coloured VW Touran collided with a horse box being towed by a van. Following the collision, the horse box overturned, causing severe damage.
Tragically, both horses inside the box, identified as two five-month-old foals, suffered grave injuries. Regrettably, one of the horses succumbed to its injuries at the scene of the accident, while the other had to be humanely put down due to the extent of its injuries.
Authorities from the Roads and Transport Policing Command have taken charge of the investigation. They urgently appeal to anyone who witnessed the collision or may have captured the incident on their dash cam to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation.
The police urge individuals with any information that could aid the investigation to contact them via the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference CAD 1969/07Oct.
As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the incident. However, authorities assure the public that their inquiries are continuing, with a determination to bring those responsible to justice.
