A person has tragically died after being struck by a train on the London Euston rail line, resulting in widespread disruption for commuters during the Thursday morning rush hour.

Emergency services were called to the tracks near Rugeley Trent Valley station in Staffordshire at around 6.30am today (20 March). Despite the swift arrival of British Transport Police and paramedics, the individual was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

A spokesperson for British Transport Police (BTP) said:

“Officers were called to the line near Rugeley Trent Valley railway station at around 6.30am today (20 March) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
Paramedics also attended; however, sadly, a person was pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”

National Rail reported significant delays and disruption to services running between London Euston and the Midlands, as emergency services dealt with the incident and rail operators worked to restore normal schedules.

Passengers were advised to check for the latest updates before travelling and to expect ongoing delays throughout the morning.
