The family of a man who was killed after being hit by a speeding car in Morden has been named as Chinnathambi Karunakaran. The fatal collision took place on Monday, 3rd March, in Green Lane, near Rose Hill, Sutton, causing major traffic disruption and ultimately claiming a life.
Fatal Collision on Pedestrian Crossing
The victim, a 49-year-old man, was attempting to cross the road near to the pedestrian crossing when he was struck by a vehicle. That his family has claimed was speeding.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed that officers, along with London Ambulance Service paramedics, were called to the scene at 6:51 PM. Despite their best efforts, the man was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigation Underway
A Met Police spokesperson said:
*”Police were called to a road traffic collision between a car and a pedestrian in Green Lane, Morden, at 6.51pm on Monday, 3 March.
Despite the London Ambulance Service and officers providing treatment to a 49-year-old man, he was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
No arrests have been made, and enquiries are ongoing. The road is now reopened.”*
Road Closures & Traffic Impact
The crash forced the closure of Green Lane northbound, between A217 Reigate Avenue (Rose Hill roundabout) and Love Lane, for several hours, impacting local traffic.
Appeal for Witnesses
Police are urging witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage from the area at the time to come forward to assist with the investigation.
