No Injuries Reported in Monkton Fire Scare
Fortunately, no injuries have been reported. However, the incident has sparked a new wave of safety warnings from Kent Fire and Rescue, reminding residents of the dangers of bonfires that are left unsupervised or built too close to structures and vegetation.
Fire Service Issues Bonfire Safety Advice
Following the incident, Kent Fire and Rescue issued the following advice to prevent future bonfire emergencies:
- Keep bonfires small and manageable – never build them near properties, trees, or bushes.
- Supervise the fire at all times – never leave a burning bonfire unattended.
- Always have fire safety tools ready – keep a bucket of water or hosepipe close at hand.
- In case of loss of control, move to a safe area and call 999 immediately.
A spokesperson for Kent Fire and Rescue said:
“We urge the public to always take extra caution when having a bonfire. Simple steps can prevent a small fire from turning into a major emergency.
Bonfire Safety Under the Spotlight
This Ramsgate incident highlights the increasing concern over bonfire safety as warmer months encourage outdoor activities. Last year, Kent Fire and Rescue reported a spike in similar incidents during spring and summer, with many traced back to unattended or poorly built fires.
Local residents are urged to think carefully before lighting fires and to always follow the proper safety guidelines.
Stay alert, stay safe — and if in doubt, call 999.
