Constables from the Maidstone Victim Based Crime Team arrested Daiana Anghel after they travelled to the Luton area as part of an investigation into crimes committed at two jewellery stores last year. Officers were looking into claims that on August 17, 2022, a woman tried on rings from a display at a H Samuel store in Bluewater, and when she left, staff discovered three of them had been stolen, with two of the rings replaced by fakes. On the 10th of September, a ring worth nearly £9,000 was stolen from Cornell and Sons in Gabriel’s Hill, Maidstone, after being concealed by a woman posing as a customer. Anghel, 23, was arrested at her home address in Tenby Drive, Luton, on Wednesday, January 11, 2023. She was charged with two counts of theft, one count of fraud, and one count of possessing an article for use in fraud (namely more than 60 fake rings). Anghel appeared in Luton Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, January 12, and pleaded guilty. She was granted conditional bail and will be sentenced on February 23 at Luton Crown Court.
