Sussex Police have launched an investigation and issued a public appeal after a woman in her 20s was reportedly sexually assaulted in Nymans Woods, near Handcross, on Thursday morning.
The incident is said to have occurred at around 7:45am, when the woman was allegedly inappropriately touched by a man before being followed into Handcross village.
Arrest Made, Suspect on Bail
Officers responded swiftly to the report and arrested a 33-year-old man on suspicion of common assault. He has since been released on bail with strict conditions, pending further investigation.
Sussex Police confirmed that protective measures have been implemented to support the victim and ensure her safety.
Witness Appeal
Detectives are asking for help from anyone who was in or around Nymans Woods or Handcross village on the morning of Thursday, 3 July, and may have seen anything suspicious.
A spokesperson for Sussex Police said:
“We are continuing to support the victim and are keen to speak with anyone who may have witnessed the incident or saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area around the time of the report.”

Public Reassurance
The force has increased patrols in the area and advised local residents to remain alert but not alarmed. Officers also encouraged those walking alone in wooded or rural areas to remain aware of their surroundings and report any suspicious activity immediately.
