A section of the North Circular is closed in both directions with traffic queuing back to the M4 after a woman fell from a bridge. Metropolitan Police officers were called at 2.18am on Friday (August 2) to reports of a woman having fallen from a bridge over Gunnersbury Avenue in Hounslow.
Officers and the London Ambulance Service attended the scene where a woman in her 30s was found to have fallen from the overhead bridge onto the road, colliding with a heavy goods vehicle. Tragically, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: “Enquiries are underway to notify next of kin. The Met’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit is investigating the circumstances of this unexpected death. A lorry driver is assisting police with their enquiries.
Road closures and cordons remain in place as the investigation continues. The A406 North Circular is closed in both directions between M4 Junction 1 (Chiswick Roundabout, Chiswick) and A4000 Gunnersbury Lane (Gunnersbury Park, Acton). This has resulted in significant congestion extending to Chiswick High Road from the M4, south back around Acton Green Common, and past Turnham Green station.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area and seek alternative routes where possible. Delays are expected to persist until the road can be safely reopened.
