A door supervisor has been convicted after being caught working with a suspended licence at a popular Cambridgeshire venue.
Amadu Tavares was on duty at No6 Cocktail Bar in St Neots on 10 May 2024 when Cambridgeshire Police carried out licence checks on door staff. Officers discovered his licence had been suspended a month earlier by the Security Industry Authority (SIA) on 10 April 2024.
Tavares failed to attend two interviews under caution arranged by SIA investigators in July 2024.
He later appeared at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court on 15 January 2025, where he pleaded guilty to offences under Section 3 of the Private Security Industry Act 2001, which prohibits engaging in licensable security work without a valid licence.
Tavares was fined £200, ordered to pay an £80 victim surcharge, and £280 in prosecution costs, bringing the total penalty to £560.
Nicola Bolton, Criminal Investigations Manager at the SIA, said:
Mr Tavares chose to ignore the suspension of his licence, putting public safety at risk and undermining the integrity of the industry.
The sentence handed down will serve as a strong reminder that non-compliance has serious consequences.
The SIA continues to monitor licence holders rigorously to ensure that those working in the private security sector maintain high standards of public protection.
