A police investigation has been launched after the body of a newborn baby was discovered in a bag outside a church in Notting Hill.
Officers were called at 12:46pm on Tuesday, 25 March, to Talbot Road, W11, following a report that a bag containing the body of a baby had been left near the premises. The London Ambulance Service also attended the scene, but the baby was sadly pronounced dead.
The Metropolitan Police are treating the incident with the utmost seriousness and are urgently appealing for the baby’s mother to come forward amid growing concerns for her physical and emotional wellbeing.
In a statement, police said:
“We are extremely concerned for the welfare of the baby’s mother and urge her to contact emergency services or attend a hospital immediately to receive the medical and emotional support she may need.”
Detectives are currently working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident. A post-mortem examination is expected to take place in due course.
