NASA is gearing up for an exciting milestone in space exploration. The agency will provide live coverage of the prelaunch and launch activities for the Boeing Crew Flight Test, which will carry NASA astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams to and from the International Space Station (ISS).
The launch is scheduled for 10:34 p.m. EDT on Monday, May 6, from Space Launch Complex-41 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station. The mission will be carried out by the United Launch Alliance (ULA) Atlas V rocket, with the Boeing Starliner spacecraft as its payload.
Testing the Starliner Spacecraft
The Boeing Crew Flight Test is a critical step in certifying the transportation system for rotational missions to the ISS under NASA’s Commercial Crew Program. During the flight test, Wilmore and Williams will spend about a week aboard the Starliner spacecraft, testing its subsystems and ensuring its readiness for future crewed missions.
Docking with the ISS
Following the successful launch, the Starliner will autonomously dock to the forward-facing port of the station’s Harmony module at 12:48 a.m. on Wednesday, May 8. This docking procedure is a crucial part of the mission, as it demonstrates the spacecraft’s ability to safely rendezvous with the ISS.
The launch will be streamed live on NASA+, NASA Television, the NASA app, YouTube, and the agency’s website.
