Huseyin Kalyoncu, 34, has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the brutal killing of his girlfriend Sonia Parker, 51, at their shared home in Styles Close, Edenbridge.
The sentencing took place at Maidstone Crown Court on Wednesday, 11 December 2024, with Kalyoncu ordered to serve a minimum of 19 years before being considered for parole.
Tragic Incident and Arrest
Kent Police arrested Kalyoncu on 5 May 2024 following a fatal assault triggered by an argument over Ms. Parker’s WhatsApp usage. Despite paramedics’ efforts to revive her, Ms. Parker was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Extent of Violence Revealed in Court
During the trial, forensic evidence exposed the horrific nature of the attack. A pathologist confirmed Ms. Parker suffered 69 injuries, including:
- Internal bruising
- Significant liver damage
- Multiple bone fractures
Critically, some injuries were determined to have occurred weeks before her fatal assault, suggesting a prolonged pattern of domestic abuse.
Legal Proceedings
Kalyoncu initially appeared at Maidstone Crown Court on 13 June 2024, where he pleaded guilty to manslaughter but denied murder. His denial forced the victim’s family to endure a traumatic court process.
Police Response
Detective Superintendent Kathleen Way condemned Kalyoncu’s actions, stating that his “inability to control his temper” resulted in a devastating loss of life and a substantial prison sentence.
