Following the tragic death of 38-year-old Daniel Allsop, who collapsed in the entrance to McDonald’s on Bank Hey Street, Blackpool, a murder investigation has been launched. Mr. Allsop passed away on Wednesday after collapsing on Monday, October 2.
A Home Office post-mortem examination revealed that the cause of Daniel’s death was blunt force trauma. The Lancashire Police have now arrested a 29-year-old man of no fixed address on suspicion of murder. He remains in custody as the investigation progresses.
In a tribute, Daniel’s family expressed their grief, describing him as a son, dad, brother, grandson, uncle, nephew, and cousin. They shared, “He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.”
Detective Chief Inspector Jill Johnston, leading the investigation, conveyed sympathies to Daniel’s family and urged witnesses to come forward. The incident is believed to have occurred on Bethesda Road around 4:30 pm on Monday, and investigators are particularly interested in accounts of any disturbances or suspicious activities during that time.
DCI Jill Johnston emphasised the urgency of obtaining information from the community: “We believe that Daniel was assaulted on Bethesda Road, in the middle of a busy town center in the middle of the day. I would ask anyone who was in the area, maybe on foot or traveling in their vehicle or public transport, who saw anything – however inconsequential they may think it is – to make contact with us.”
Addressing recent concerns within the community due to high-profile incidents in Blackpool, DCI Johnston assured residents that the investigation is treating this incident as an isolated case. Increased reassurance patrols have been deployed, and officers are actively conducting inquiries in the area.
Residents with information are urged to report it through the Major Incident Portal (https://mipp.police.uk/operation/0401020123L19-PO1) or by calling 101, quoting log 431 of October 7, 2023. Anonymous tips can be provided to Crimestoppers at 0800 555111.
