Detectives from the East Midlands Special Operations Unit (EMSOU) have initiated a murder investigation after a 59-year-old man was fatally stabbed on Conduit Street. The East Midlands Ambulance Service alerted the police around 19:30 BST while treating the victim at the scene.
Despite immediate medical attention, the 59-year-old man succumbed to his injuries shortly afterward. A 29-year-old man was swiftly apprehended near the crime scene on suspicion of murder and is currently in police custody.
Conduit Street remains cordoned off for scene preservation, and Detective Chief Inspector Mark Sinski, leading the investigation, appealed to potential witnesses: “A lot of people were in and around Conduit Street at the time of the incident and would have witnessed what happened. I would urge them to come forward and speak to us.”
He expressed gratitude to those who have already cooperated with the investigation and urged anyone present on Conduit Street between 19:00 and 19:30 on September 30 to provide information. The police are particularly interested in hearing from drivers with dash-cam footage.
Next of kin are being informed, and a post-mortem examination is scheduled. The investigation is ongoing, with efforts to minimise disruption during local events around Conduit Street on Sunday, October 1.
