A murder investigation has been launched following the tragic death of 15-year-old Amen Teklay, who was found seriously injured on Clarendon Street, Glasgow, on Wednesday, 5 March 2025.
Incident Details
Emergency services were called to the scene at approximately 10:30 PM, where they discovered Amen Teklay with serious injuries. Despite efforts from paramedics, he was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed.
Following a post-mortem examination, Police Scotland has confirmed that Amen’s death is being treated as murder, and a major investigation has been launched.
Tributes to Amen Teklay
Amen was remembered as a “funny, bright” young man by Kingsway Community Connections, a local youth organisation he had been actively involved with.
In a statement, the group said: “We are deeply saddened to learn of the tragic death of Amen Teklay. He was a valued member of our youth and film groups, and was still receiving support from our staff until the day of his death.”
“He was funny, bright, and loved playing football, pizza nights, and summer BBQs. Amen developed great relationships with our team, and we are devastated by his sudden passing.”
The organisation also confirmed they are providing support to Amen’s family and friends as they mourn his loss.
Police Investigation Ongoing
A large police presence remains in the area as forensic officers continue their examination of the scene.
Detective Superintendent Cheryl Kelly, leading the investigation, described Amen’s death as a “tragedy”, adding:
“Our thoughts are with Amen’s family and friends at this distressing time. We will continue to provide specialist support to them as our inquiry progresses.”
She urged anyone with dash-cam, private CCTV, or doorbell footage from the area around the time of the incident to come forward.
Appeal for Witnesses
Chief Inspector Colin MacLucas, local area commander, reassured residents that the police are working closely with detectives to establish the full circumstances of the incident.
He said: “I understand residents will be concerned, but I can reassure them that a visible police presence will remain in the area. Anyone with information should approach officers or contact us directly.”
Anyone with information is urged to contact Police Scotland, quoting incident number 3652 of March 5, or report anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
Detectives have also launched an online portal for the public to submit information directly to the Major Investigation Team, which can be done anonymously.
Police Scotland has stated that the investigation remains active and ongoing, with further updates expected in due course.
