Following a post-mortem examination, the death of Stuart McGeachie is now being treated as murder. The incident occurred on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, in Rutherglen, Scotland.

Police were called to Farmeloan Road, near the junction with Victoria Street, at approximately 19.00 BST in response to reports of a disturbance. It was discovered that Mr. McGeachie, a 38-year-old man, had been assaulted outside a premises on Farmeloan Road. He managed to make his way to a nearby flat, where he was later pronounced dead.

The relatives of Stuart McGeachie have been informed, and a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal. Detectives from Police Scotland’s Major Investigation Team are leading the investigation, and extensive inquiries are currently underway.

Detective Chief Inspector John Morrison expressed condolences to Stuart’s family and friends during this challenging time. He assured the local community that the police are fully committed to identifying and locating those responsible for the crime. CCTV footage from the surrounding area is being gathered as part of the ongoing investigation.

The police are particularly interested in speaking with a group of youths who were spotted in the area wearing dark clothing and riding bikes or scooters throughout the day on Farmeloan Road and Main Street. They believe these individuals may have crucial information about the incident and urge them to come forward. Detective Chief Inspector Morrison emphasised the importance of getting answers for Stuart’s devastated family.

Farmeloan Road and Victoria Street were temporarily closed to carry out investigations but have since been reopened. The police will maintain a presence in the area, and the public is encouraged to approach officers with any concerns.
