A suspected vehicle thief has been arrested following a dramatic police pursuit through a Dudley housing estate in the early hours of the morning.
Officers from the Road Crime Team spotted a recently stolen motorhome shortly after it was taken. When they attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver failed to comply and a pursuit ensued through the Russell’s Hall estate.
During the chase, the suspect reportedly repeatedly attempted to ram police vehicles in a desperate attempt to evade capture. Despite the dangerous manoeuvres, officers managed to safely contain the pursuit.
The driver eventually abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot, but was quickly tracked down and arrested at a nearby address.
A spokesperson for the Road Crime Team said:
“This motorhome was seen just moments after being stolen in the early hours. The driver made off and was pursued through the Russell’s Hall estate, where they made multiple attempts to ram our officers. Thankfully, no one was injured, and the suspect was arrested shortly after fleeing on foot.”
The stolen vehicle has since been recovered and will be returned to its rightful owner. Enquiries are ongoing.
Police have not yet confirmed charges but say the investigation is continuing.
