Police have revealed new details in the search for missing sisters Eliza and Henrietta Huszti, who were last seen in Aberdeen on 7 January 2025. CCTV footage shows the sisters, both 32, visited Victoria Bridge, where they were last seen, the day before their disappearance.
The women, originally from Hungary, were reported missing after they failed to return to their flat on Charlotte Street. Their disappearance has prompted an extensive search, focused around the River Dee, involving police helicopters, divers, and search dogs.
Timeline of Events
- Monday, 6 January, 14:50: CCTV shows Eliza and Henrietta at Victoria Bridge. They spent five minutes on the footpath near the bridge before heading into the city centre via Union Square and back to their flat. Police say they did not speak to anyone at the bridge.
- Tuesday, 7 January, 02:12: A text message was sent from Henrietta’s phone to their landlady from the area near Victoria Bridge, saying they would not be returning to their flat. The phone was then disconnected from the network.
- Tuesday, 7 January, Early Hours: The sisters were seen crossing Victoria Bridge and turning onto a footpath towards Aberdeen Boat Club. This was the last confirmed sighting.
Ongoing Investigation
Superintendent David Howieson of Police Scotland emphasized that no evidence suggests foul play or criminality but urged anyone who might have seen the sisters to come forward:
“Extensive inquiries are ongoing. Please think back, did you notice anyone matching their description? We are doing everything we can to trace Eliza and Henrietta’s movements.”
Police also revealed the sisters’ belongings were found in their flat, and they had not told family members about any plans to move out. Their brother, Jozsef Huszti, said from Budapest:
“It’s strange they didn’t tell us they planned to end their tenancy. Even when my mother spoke to them on Saturday, they didn’t mention any such plan.”
Search Efforts and Theories
The area was covered in snow and ice when the sisters vanished, leading investigators to consider the possibility they may have entered the water. Extensive searches of the River Dee and surrounding areas have so far yielded no results.
