In a stern message to Israel, Iran has reiterated its warning against any retaliatory actions following the unprecedented attack on Israeli territory. Major General Mohammad Bagheri, the chief of staff of the Iranian armed forces, issued the caution during a televised address on Sunday.
The overnight bombardment, which targeted Israeli positions, has raised tensions in the region. In response, General Bagheri asserted that should Israel choose to retaliate, Iran’s next steps would be “much larger.” The implications of such a statement have drawn international attention, with concerns over potential escalation.
Furthermore, Iran has directed a warning toward Washington. Any backing of Israeli retaliation by the United States would not go unnoticed. The Iranian military has explicitly stated that it would consider US bases as legitimate targets in such a scenario.
The Iranian mission to the United Nations cited Article 51 of the UN Charter, which outlines the right to self-defence. According to Iran, the matter is now “concluded” after their barrage against Israel. However, they cautioned Israel against making “another mistake.”
