PC Craig Carter, a Metropolitan Police officer, appeared in Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Friday, facing charges of misconduct in public office. The allegations stem from a theft of money in September 2022 when Claudio Gaetani, 45, suffered a heart attack and collapsed on a busy north London street.
PC Carter, 51, dressed in a blue suit and patterned blue tie, confirmed his name, age, and address during the brief court appearance. However, the seriousness of the case prompted Judge Louisa Cieciora to transfer it to Wood Green Crown Court. PC Carter is scheduled to appear there on July 26.
The officer, who serves with the Met’s North Area Command Unit covering Enfield and Haringey, has been suspended from duty pending the outcome of the legal proceedings. He was released on unconditional bail.
