Two individuals have been charged and appeared in court following a distressing incident in Wulfrun Square, Wolverhampton, where a 91-year-old woman had her purse stolen from her shopping trolley. The incident occurred last Friday, September 8, and has raised concerns about the safety of vulnerable individuals in public spaces.
Darius Babel, a 30-year-old resident of Wolverhampton, was brought before Wolverhampton Magistrates Court on Saturday, September 9. He faces charges of theft, fraud by false representation, and the possession of a controlled drug, specifically Class B cannabis. The court remanded him into custody pending further proceedings.
Ilie Dumitru, aged 54 and also from Wolverhampton, was charged with theft and false representation. He made his first court appearance before Wolverhampton Magistrates on Sunday, September 11, and, like Babel, was remanded into custody.
The incident sparked local police involvement, with officers swiftly coming to the aid of the 91-year-old victim. They not only provided assistance but also ensured her safe transportation back home.
