In a harrowing case that shook the community, Abdifatah Mohamud, a manipulative rapist, has been sentenced to 11 years in prison after assaulting a woman twice in the toilets of Kings Cross railway station. The conviction came as a result of a thorough investigation by the British Transport Police (BTP).

Abdifatah Mohamud, 35, of Islington, was found guilty by a jury at Inner London Crown Court for two counts of rape. In addition to the prison sentence, he was handed a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order and placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life.

The court heard that on 12 October 2022, at around 17.00 GMT, the victim was in a local park with a group that included Mohamud. Manipulating the situation, Mohamud falsely claimed to know the victim, using his nickname to engage her in conversation.

Later that evening, at approximately 10pm the victim returned to Kings Cross railway station and encountered the same group from earlier in the day. Mohamud approached her once again and, coercively, led her to the toilets where he committed the first rape.

Following the initial assault, Mohamud exploited the victim’s vulnerability by taking her for food, masquerading as though he meant no harm. However, he then coerced her for a second time into the toilets, where he forced her to consume drugs and raped her once more. As the victim grew increasingly distressed and vocal, Mohamud left the scene.

The victim was discovered in the toilets by a cleaner, who promptly alerted security. British Transport Police were informed, and a report was filed.

Detective Constable Adrienne Curzon, the investigating officer, described Mohamud as a calculating offender who used coercion and manipulation to carry out the rapes. The victim endured an extremely frightening experience, and it is hoped that the outcome of the trial will assist her in recovering from the traumatising ordeal she endured.
