Manchester United footballer Antony, already embroiled in a controversy involving allegations of abusive behavior, now faces fresh accusations from two more women. The 23-year-old winger was recently dropped from the Brazil squad following initial allegations made by his former girlfriend, Gabriela Cavallin.
New reports in the Brazilian media shed light on additional claims of violent behavior by Antony. Rayssa de Freitas has alleged that she required hospital treatment after an assault by Antony and another woman in May of the previous year. It is reported that Ms. De Freitas filed a complaint with the Sao Paulo Civil Police.
In another revelation, Ingrid Lana has come forward in a Brazilian TV interview, asserting that Antony pressured her into having sexual relations during a business trip to England in the past year. Ms. Lana alleged that Antony invited her to his residence, where an altercation occurred that resulted in her hitting her head. She claimed, “He tried to have a relationship with me, and I didn’t want to. He pushed me against the wall, and I hit my head. My purpose was just business. Upon arriving at his invitation, I realised he had ulterior motives.”
The initial allegations against Antony involved an incident where he is accused of assaulting Gabriela Cavallin with a headbutt in a Manchester hotel room on January 15th. This alleged altercation left her with a head injury that required medical treatment. Cavallin also claimed she was punched in the chest by Antony, causing damage to a silicone breast implant, which necessitated corrective surgery in Brazil.
Another reported incident occurred at a residence on May 8th, during which Cavallin asserted that she sustained a cut finger while attempting to protect herself. She accused Antony of throwing a glass cup towards her and taking her passport during this incident.
Cavallin has reportedly filed a report with the Sao Paulo Civil Police regarding allegations of physical and verbal abuse by Antony while they were on vacation in Brazil in June 2022, during which she was pregnant. She also made a separate complaint to Greater Manchester Police (GMP).
In response to these allegations, Manchester United issued a statement on Wednesday, acknowledging that they are taking Gabriela Cavallin’s accusations “seriously.” However, the club did not clarify whether Antony remains available for selection.
Antony, who joined Manchester United from Ajax in a high-profile £85 million deal in September of the previous year, has made 31 appearances for the club since Cavallin’s initial complaint to GMP in January. The footballer has vehemently denied all allegations, dismissing them as “false accusations.”
