Tyler Thornhill, 24, of Standfast Road, Henbury, Bristol, has been sentenced to two and a half years in prison for assaulting his ex-partner in Warminster and committing criminal damage.
Thornhill, who pleaded guilty to two counts of ABH (Actual Bodily Harm) and two counts of criminal damage, received his sentence at Salisbury Crown Court on Monday, April 29.
The incident occurred on February 14, 2023, when Thornhill, armed with a baseball bat, forcibly entered his ex-partner’s home, grabbing her around the throat before taking some belongings.
As part of his sentence, Thornhill was also ordered to pay a surcharge of £228 and given a 10-year restraining order.
In a statement read out in court, the victim expressed the profound impact of the abuse, stating, “I constantly check multiple times through the night that doors are locked, curtains are shut, lights are off, and even go as far as sellotaping the letterbox in fear that he would set fire to my house whilst I was asleep. I never thought I would find the courage to report the abuse simply because I was too scared to find out the repercussions.”
Local Crime Investigator Suzanne Stone emphasized the severity of Thornhill’s actions and their lasting effects on the victim. She praised the victim’s bravery for coming forward and standing up against the abuse.
Stone added, “I welcome the sentencing that has been given to the suspect, especially the ten-year restraining order that has been put in place. I hope the victim can now finally start to feel safe and begin to move forward with their life.”
She urged anyone experiencing abuse to seek help and support, emphasizing the importance of standing up to perpetrators of such crimes.
