Jack Powell, a 24-year-old man from Griffin Lane, Aylesbury, has been sentenced to five and a half years in prison following a Thames Valley Police investigation into rape and sexual assault. Powell appeared at Reading Crown Court on Monday, September 2, where he was convicted for the crimes.
Powell was found guilty by a unanimous jury verdict of one count of rape and one count of sexual assault by penetration. The offences took place on July 7, 2020, when Powell raped and assaulted a woman in her twenties at a property in Aylesbury. He was arrested shortly after the incident, on July 17, 2020, and subsequently charged in December of the same year.
Sergeant Samuel Summers of Thames Valley Police praised the victim’s bravery after the sentencing, saying, “I would like to pay tribute to the victim in this case, as she has displayed tremendous dignity and bravery to support our investigation to bring Powell to justice.
Sgt. Summers emphasized the importance of tackling violence against women and girls, adding, “I am pleased that Powell is now in prison where he belongs.” He reiterated the police force’s commitment to investigating such cases, supporting victims, and bringing offenders to justice.
