Default Heading H1
A man has been jailed for 10 years after beating a 60-year-old man to death during a violent argument at a home in Charlton.
Radoslaw Brzezicki, 42, of Erwood Road, Charlton, was sentenced on Wednesday 23 July at Isleworth Crown Court, having been convicted of manslaughter last month over the death of Robert Dlugosz.
The incident occurred on 22 November 2023, when Brzezicki violently assaulted Robert at his home, also attacking a woman in her 40s, who managed to escape and raise the alarm. Brzezicki was also convicted of causing actual bodily harm (ABH) in relation to that assault.
Court Hears of Brutal Home Attack
Emergency services were called after the female victim fled the address and alerted a passerby. When officers arrived at the Erwood Road property, they found Robert alive but seriously injured.
An officer at the scene used a translation app to communicate with Robert, a Polish speaker, and obtained a crucial account identifying Brzezicki as the attacker. Robert collapsed shortly after giving the statement.
He was rushed to hospital for emergency surgery but sadly died three days later, on 25 November 2023. A post-mortem confirmed the cause of death as a traumatic brain injury.
Lead Investigator Statement
Detective Chief Inspector Samantha Townsend, from the Met’s Specialist Crime South unit, said:
“We hope that this sentence will provide some closure to Mr Dlugosz’s family and friends.
I would once again like to pay tribute to the surviving victim in this case, whose evidence proved essential to securing a conviction and lengthy prison sentence for Brzezicki.”
