Police responded to reports of an assault at a shop on Melfort Road, Croydon, at approximately 6pm on Sunday, May 12.
Upon arrival, officers and paramedics from the London Ambulance Service discovered a man in his 60s who had been assaulted. He was swiftly transported to the hospital for urgent medical attention and remains in critical condition.
A 42-year-old man has been apprehended on suspicion of grievous bodily harm (GBH) with intent and is currently in custody as inquiries into the incident persist.
Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding the assault to come forward. They can contact the police at 101 or reach out to the Metropolitan Police’s Command and Control Unit (MetCC) quoting CAD5641/12May. Alternatively, information can be shared anonymously with the independent charity Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111.
Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the assault are ongoing as the victim continues to receive medical care in the hospital.
