A heartbreaking tragedy unfolded last June 25 when Rohan Trotman, a beloved father, was fatally stabbed on Gordon Road near Nunhead Green in Peckham. The motive? An electric bike.
Rohan, 26, was cycling home from Croydon on his new electric bike when he was attacked by two assailants. Left with multiple stab wounds, he was found bleeding in the street and succumbed to his injuries in the hospital the following day.
Now, Yusuf Kallon, 19, of Marmont Road in Peckham, has been convicted of murdering Rohan Trotman. The second individual involved managed to flee the UK before police could apprehend him.
Prior to the murder, both perpetrators were involved in a motorbike robbery in Waterloo. Following the heinous act, Kallon attempted to flee the country, making credit card payments to a holiday company in Spain, booking a flight to Sierra Leone, and acquiring a new fast-tracked passport.
During the trial, Kallon admitted to being a career criminal but denied the charge of murder. However, on Monday, a jury found him guilty of murder along with two counts of robbery.
Detective Chief Inspector Laurence Smith, who spearheaded the investigation, expressed the profound loss felt by Rohan’s family. Rohan was not just a victim of a senseless crime; he was a cherished son, partner, and brother. The conviction of Kallon, amidst the family’s devastation, offers a semblance of closure.
Rohan’s mother, Debra, extended her gratitude to the police for their relentless pursuit of justice. While nothing can alleviate the pain of losing Rohan, his family hopes that Kallon’s conviction will serve as a measure of justice for their beloved son.
