A murder investigation has been launched after a man who was assaulted in an Aldi car park was later found dead at his home in Ilkeston, Derbyshire.

Luke Elliott-Shircore, described by friends as kind and dog-loving, was discovered deceased at his residence on Wednesday, 25 June, just over four weeks after the alleged assault took place.

Aldi Car Park Assault

Derbyshire Police confirmed that Luke, 42, had been attacked on Sunday, 25 May, at approximately 4.15pm in the car park of the Aldi store in Ilkeston. While initial enquiries were underway, the seriousness of the case escalated dramatically following his sudden death.

Detective Chief Inspector Jen Lovatt, from the East Midlands Major Crime Unit, said:

“Luke’s family are aware that we have launched a murder investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death, and they are being supported by specialist officers.

“Our thoughts go out to them at this sad time, and we ask that their wishes for privacy are respected.”

Appeal for Witnesses

Police are urging witnesses or anyone with information to come forward. DCI Lovatt stressed the importance of public cooperation in piecing together the events leading up to Luke’s death:

“We believe that someone in the local community will have information about the circumstances which led to Luke’s death.

“We are particularly keen to speak to anyone who was in the Aldi car park between 4pm and 5pm on May 25.

“Did you see a man being assaulted? Did you notice anyone acting suspiciously? Perhaps you spoke to Luke or saw him that day?”
