South Yorkshire Police have launched an urgent investigation after a terrifying incident in which a man fired a gun at a home in Doncaster, then climbed through the shattered window and attacked two women with a wooden weapon.
The violent attack occurred on Almond Avenue in the Armthorpe area shortly after 11:30pm on Sunday, April 20. Officers were alerted to the scene after receiving a call from the Yorkshire Ambulance Service, who were responding to reports of a firearm discharge.
Upon arrival, police found that a window of the property had been shot, and a man had allegedly climbed inside and physically assaulted two women. The victims sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to hospital for treatment.
A police cordon remains in place as detectives and forensic teams continue to examine the scene. Evidence of a firearm discharge was confirmed at the property.
Targeted Attack, Police Say
Detective Chief Inspector Chris Ronayne, leading the investigation, said the incident is being treated as a targeted attack rather than a random act of violence.
“We will not tolerate gun crime here in South Yorkshire, and we are working hard to piece together the circumstances of this incident and bring the person responsible to justice,” he said.
“This kind of mindless violence puts innocent people in danger, and it has no place in our communities.”
Appeal for Information
The incident has sparked alarm among local residents. In response, police have stepped up patrols in the area, are conducting door-to-door enquiries, and are urging witnesses or anyone with relevant CCTV, dashcam or doorbell footage to come forward.
“The information you provide could be the missing piece of the jigsaw that helps us catch those responsible,” DCI Ronayne added.
Anyone with information is asked to call 101, quoting incident number 995 of 20 April, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
This marks the second gun-related incident on Almond Avenue in recent years, raising concerns about increasing violence in residential areas of Doncaster.
