A man in his 60s has died following a medical emergency near Devizes School this morning.
Emergency Rush at Devizes Leisure Centre
Emergency services were called to Southbroom Road at around 8.30am on Wednesday after a man suffered a cardiac arrest at Devizes Leisure Centre, right by the secondary school.
As pupils arrived, teachers quickly guided them indoors to keep the area clear for paramedics and police.
All Efforts Unable to Save Man
Despite a fast response from two ambulance crews, critical care medics, Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance, and police officers, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
“There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances and our thoughts are with his family at this time,” said a Wiltshire Police spokesperson.
School Reassures Parents After Incident
Devizes School quickly informed parents that no lockdown was in place. They thanked everyone for cooperating and stressed the importance of keeping pavements clear for emergency vehicles.
“Please rest assured, at no point was school in a lockdown scenario this morning, however when an emergency situation arises outside school, we will always endeavour to bring children in as quickly as we can,” said a school spokesperson.
