A man who suffered a serious head injury in an assault outside a Sainsbury’s store in Bromley has sadly died, police have confirmed.

Andrew Clark, 43, was attacked at around 8.30pm on Sunday, 16 March, on Upper Elmers End Road, near the supermarket entrance. He was taken to hospital in a critical condition and fought for his life for three days before succumbing to his injuries on Tuesday, 19 March.

A 29-year-old man, Demiesh Williams, of Fir Tree Gardens, Croydon, was previously charged with grievous bodily harm with intent in connection with the incident. He appeared before Bromley Magistrates’ Court on 18 March and was remanded in custody. He is scheduled to appear at the Old Bailey on 15 April.

Following Mr Clark’s death, it is expected that the charges against Williams may now be upgraded to murder, pending further legal proceedings.

Emergency Response

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said:

“On Sunday, 16 March, police were called to Upper Elmers End Road, Bromley at 20:24hrs following reports of an assault. Officers attended the scene along with paramedics and trauma teams from London’s Air Ambulance. A man was treated at the scene and taken to a major trauma centre.”

A spokesperson for the London Ambulance Service added:

“We were called at 8.21pm to reports of an assault. We sent an ambulance crew, an advanced paramedic, and an incident response officer. A trauma team in a car from London’s Air Ambulance also attended. The patient was treated at the scene before being transported to a major trauma centre by road.”

Investigation Ongoing

Police are continuing their investigation and have urged anyone who witnessed the incident or has relevant footage to come forward.
