A 44-year-old man who was seriously assaulted in Croydon earlier this month has sadly died from his injuries, prompting a homicide investigation by the Metropolitan Police.
Officers were called to North End, Croydon at around 9:15am on Saturday, 12 July, following reports of an altercation in the busy shopping area.
Emergency services responded quickly and found the victim with severe head injuries. He was rushed to hospital by the London Ambulance Service, where he remained in a critical condition for eight days. Tragically, he was pronounced dead on Sunday, 20 July.
Ongoing Investigation
A man was arrested shortly after the incident. He was identified as Peter Dache, 33 (, of Oakfield Road, Croydon. He was charged with grievous bodily harm (GBH) on Monday, 13 July and appeared before Croydon Magistrates’ Court the following day.
Dache was remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear at Croydon Crown Court on Monday, 11 August 2025. With the victim’s death, further charges may now be considered, pending post-mortem results and legal review.
Family Being Supported
The victim has not yet been publicly named, but his family is being supported by specialist officers from the Metropolitan Police.
A spokesperson said:
“Our thoughts remain with the victim’s loved ones at this incredibly difficult time. We are working hard to establish the full circumstances of the incident and ensure justice is served.”

Detectives are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with footage from the area around the time of the incident to come forward.
