Emergency crews rushed to Purley Way, Purley late on Wednesday night after a serious crash left a man trapped inside a wrecked vehicle.
The alarm was raised at around 11.30 on May 7, after a car collided with a tree, causing significant damage and trapping the male driver inside. Firefighters and paramedics worked urgently at the scene, confirming the man was “mechanically trapped” and in cardiac arrest.
Specialist crews from the London Fire Brigade Fire rescue unit were deployed to extricate the driver while life-saving efforts were underway.
The collision caused Purley Way to be partially closed as emergency services battled to free the man and provide critical care.
