In a series of disturbing incidents, a man has been charged with multiple sexual offences that occurred in the city. The alleged incidents took place over the past month, prompting an investigation by local authorities.
Incidents and Investigation
On Friday, June 1, 2024, a man reportedly approached a woman in Market Way. After attempting a conversation, he allegedly touched the woman inappropriately over her clothing before leaving the scene. A similar incident occurred on Monday, June 3, when a man made inappropriate physical contact with a woman in Suffolk Road.
The most recent incident occurred on Monday, June 10, in Hales Drive. The man approached a woman and attempted to touch her, but she managed to prevent him from doing so. Authorities swiftly launched an investigation into these incidents.
Arrest and Charges
On Wednesday, June 12, officers from Canterbury’s Community Safety Unit apprehended the suspect. Athian Majak, 19, was charged with two counts of sexual assault and one attempted sexual assault in connection with the reported incidents. Additionally, he faces charges related to offences reported in December 2023, including two counts of sexual assault and two counts of indecent exposure.
Mr. Majak, a resident of Downs Road in Canterbury, was remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear before Margate Magistrates’ Court later that day.
