A 32-year-old man, Reece Parkes, of Fairway Drive, Chelmsford, has been charged with robbery and sexual assault following a diligent investigation by local detectives and police personnel.
The charges against Parkes were brought forward on Monday, September 18, during a hearing before magistrates. He has been remanded in custody until his next appearance at Chelmsford Crown Court, scheduled for Monday, October 16.
This case stems from an incident reported to the police on Monday, September 11, shortly before 6.25pm. A member of the public alerted authorities about an assault on a woman in an area popular with dog walkers near Mill Lane, Chelmsford. According to reports, the victim was walking her dog when she was approached from behind by an unknown man who proceeded to assault her before demanding money.
Swiftly responding to the call, officers launched a thorough investigation into the incident, which continues to progress rapidly. Their efforts included a meticulous examination of CCTV footage, conducting house-to-house inquiries, and obtaining accounts from the victim and witnesses.
Detective Chief Inspector Rob Huddleston, leading the North Local Policing Area CID, stated, “We have moved quickly to investigate this violent incident and safeguard the victim. This involved extensive examination of CCTV, house-to-house enquiries, and working to obtain accounts from the victim and witnesses.
