Sussex Police have charged a man with murder after a fatal assault occurred at The Dolphin and Anchor in West Street on Thursday, June 20. Officers responded to a report of an assault around 11pm where they discovered a 57-year-old man from South Yorkshire with serious head injuries.
Despite the efforts of police and paramedics, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim’s next of kin have been notified and are receiving support from specialist officers. Kieran Egan, 30, of Baldmoor Lake Road in Birmingham, was arrested at the scene and is now facing murder charges. He remains in custody and is scheduled to appear before Crawley Magistrates’ Court on Monday, June 24.
Additionally, a 42-year-old man from County Durham was arrested on suspicion of affray and has been released on conditional bail. Authorities are actively pursuing a third man suspected of involvement in the incident.
Detective Chief Inspector Suzanne Joseph, of the Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team, expressed condolences to the victim’s family and urged anyone with information to come forward. She encouraged witnesses who saw the events unfold or captured relevant mobile or CCTV footage to upload it directly to the Major Incident Public Portal under Operation Arunside.
