Man Charged with Inciting Racial Hatred on Social Media to Appear in Court

A 45-year-old man from Mansfield is set to appear in court today after being arrested for allegedly posting extreme racist content on social media. John England, of Big Barn Lane, was apprehended by police on Sunday, August 11, following allegations of posting racist videos and messages on Facebook. These posts are also said to have incited racial hatred and disorder.

The incident came to light on Saturday, August 10, when police were alerted to England’s online activity, which included threatening, abusive, and insulting words, with a suspected intent to provoke racial hatred. Authorities moved swiftly to investigate, resulting in England’s arrest the following morning.

Nottinghamshire Police have charged England under section 19(1) of the Public Order Act 1986, which relates to the publishing or distributing of material that stirs up racial hatred.

Detective Chief Inspector Paul Lefford of Nottinghamshire Police expressed the seriousness of the situation in a statement: “I hope this sends out a strong message to anyone sharing racist content or inciting racial hatred on social media. We will act swiftly in such cases, and offenders will be charged and brought before the courts.”

England remains in custody and is scheduled to appear at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court today, Monday, August 12. Police have reiterated their commitment to cracking down on hate crimes and public disorder, emphasizing their zero-tolerance stance on racism and discrimination.

Authorities have urged anyone with information regarding public disorder or hate crimes to contact them directly via 101 or through the Live Chat function on the Nottinghamshire Police website. Information can also be provided anonymously through Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111.
