A man has been charged following a brutal robbery at a jewellery shop in Richmond, which tragically resulted in the death of a shop worker the following day.
Police were called to Kettles of Watches on Kew Road shortly before 3 pm on Saturday, May 25. Two unarmed men entered the shop and assaulted Oliver White, the member of staff on duty, before making off with £2 million worth of high-value watches.
Despite the assault, Oliver was initially treated at the scene. However, on Sunday, May 26, police were informed of his untimely death. Surrey Police are investigating the circumstances of his death, but it is not being treated as suspicious at this time.
Junior Kunu, 29, of 14 Lancaster Avenue, Mitcham, was charged with robbery on Wednesday, June 5, in connection with the incident. He appeared at Bromley Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, June 6, where he was remanded in custody. Kunu is set to appear at Kingston Crown Court on Thursday, July 4.
Detectives are appealing to the public for any information that could assist with their investigation. Anyone with information is urged to call 101 or contact the Metropolitan Police on X, quoting reference CAD4555/25May.
