A 21-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a suspected arson attack on a Kentish Town property linked to Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
The arrest was made in the early hours of Tuesday, 13 May, on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life. The suspect remains in police custody.
Emergency services were called to fires at the entrances of two residential properties in north London within a 24-hour period—one occurring shortly after 1.30am on Monday, and the other on Sunday. Both properties are understood to have links to the Prime Minister.
Due to the connection with a high-profile public figure, the Metropolitan Police’s Counter Terrorism Command is leading the investigation. Detectives are also examining a third incident involving a vehicle fire in NW5 on Thursday, 8 May, to determine whether it may be linked.
A spokesperson for the Met Police said:
“A man has been arrested in connection with a series of arson attacks. The 21-year-old was arrested in the early hours of Tuesday, 13 May, on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life. He remains in custody.
The arrest relates to three incidents. On Monday, 12 May at 1.35am, police were alerted by the London Fire Brigade to a fire at a residential address in NW5. Officers attended the scene, where damage had been caused to the property’s entrance. No injuries were reported.
As a precaution, and due to the property’s links with a high-profile public figure, the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command is leading the investigation. Officers are also investigating a vehicle fire in NW5 on 8 May and another fire at a property in N7 on 11 May.
All three fires are being treated as suspicious, and enquiries remain ongoing.
