A 39-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the disappearance and presumed death of Khasha Smith, 35, police announced today.
Khasha Smith was last seen alive during a FaceTime call on October 10, 2023. After extensive investigations, authorities now believe she is deceased, although her body has yet to be found.
The arrest, which occurred on Friday, September 6, 2024, marks a major breakthrough in the case, which has captured the attention of the Edinburgh community for nearly a year. Police Scotland’s Major Investigation Team continues to lead the inquiries.
Detective Chief Inspector Bob Williamson, who is leading the investigation, emphasised the need for public assistance, urging anyone with information, no matter how minor, to come forward. He stated, “Our thoughts are very much with Khasha’s family at this extremely difficult time. They are understandably devastated, and it is vital we get answers for them.”
DCI Williamson also stressed the importance of any potential evidence in advancing the case.
The Smith family has been notified of the arrest and requested privacy during this challenging time.
