A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following a serious two-vehicle collision on the A183 Coast Road in Whitburn, Northumbria Police have confirmed.
The incident occurred at around 7:40pm on Thursday, 17 April, near the junction with Sea Lane, and involved a grey Ford Fiesta and a motorcycle.
Police say that, following an alleged altercation, the Ford Fiesta was travelling southbound when it left the road and collided with the motorcycle. The rider, a man in his 20s, suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
A man in his 30s has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and is currently in police custody. The A183 was closed overnight while collision investigators worked at the scene but has since reopened.
Witness Appeal
Northumbria Police are urging anyone who witnessed the collision, or who may have CCTV or dashcam footage, to come forward as part of their investigation.
A police spokesperson said:
“We are treating this incident with the utmost seriousness and are asking anyone who may have seen the events leading up to the collision, or captured footage, to contact us.”
