A 44-year-old man from Surrey has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and driving without insurance following a multi-vehicle crash that closed part of the M20 motorway near Maidstone on Tuesday night.
The incident occurred at approximately 9.40pm on Tuesday, 20 May, between junctions 8 and 7 on the westbound carriageway, prompting an emergency response from police and paramedics.
According to Kent Police, officers and ambulance crews attended the scene where one man was treated for injuries and later taken to hospital for further medical attention. His condition is currently unknown.
The collision involved three vehicles and resulted in the full closure of the M20 westbound at the scene. National Highways confirmed via social media platform X that the carriageway was closed at 10.30pm, with traffic released at 11.38pm following vehicle recovery and emergency services’ assessment.
The arrested man was taken into custody and remains under investigation.
A spokesperson for Kent Police said:
"Officers and paramedics attended the scene where a man was treated for injuries. He was taken to a local hospital for further medical attention. A 44-year-old man from Surrey was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and driving without insurance and was taken into custody."
Motorists faced delays and diversions during the road closure, with congestion extending several miles at the height of the incident.
