Police Respond to Dog Incident in Swanstead
Essex Police have confirmed that they are on the scene of an incident involving three dogs in Swanstead, Basildon. The situation unfolded earlier today, prompting a significant police presence in the area.
A man has been arrested on suspicion of having a dog dangerously out of control in public. Police have reassured the public that no injuries to people have been reported in connection with the incident.
Dog Injured in Attack
It is understood that one of the dogs involved was attacked by the other two, sustaining significant injuries. Eyewitnesses reported seeing chunks of flesh ripped from the injured dog’s body. The wounded animal has since been taken to a vet for medical treatment.
The two other dogs involved in the incident remain contained at the scene, and appropriately trained officers are continuing their response.
Police Statement
Essex Police issued a statement on social media, saying:
“We’re on the scene of an incident involving three dogs in Swanstead, Basildon. There are no injuries to the public, and, at this stage, a man has been arrested on suspicion of having a dog dangerously out of control in public. One dog has been taken to a vet for medical treatment, and two remain contained at the scene. Appropriately trained officers are at the scene as our response to the incident continues.”
Investigation Ongoing
Police have not yet confirmed the breed or ownership of the dogs involved. Local residents reported a heavy police presence and animal control officers managing the situation.
Basildon resident Kerry Thomas, who witnessed part of the incident, said:
“It was terrifying to hear the noises coming from the scene. You could tell something serious was happening, and I just hope the injured dog will be okay.”
The investigation remains active, and Essex Police have assured the public that they will provide updates when more information becomes available.
