Devon and Cornwall Police are responding to a major incident in the West Hoe area of Plymouth following reports of a serious assault. The incident has prompted a significant emergency response, including armed officers, paramedics, and the deployment of a police drone.
Incident Details
The assault was reported at approximately 8:55 PM on Wednesday, January 22, 2025. A person was found seriously injured in the street on West Hoe Road. Paramedics provided immediate treatment at the scene before transporting the victim to Derriford Hospital. Their condition remains unknown.
A large police presence remains in the area, with officers conducting extensive searches to locate a male suspect believed to be involved. Police have stated that the suspect and victim were known to each other.

Detective Chief Inspector Dave Pebworth said:
“We have a large police presence in the area, and enquiries are ongoing to locate and arrest the suspect. We believe this is an isolated incident and there is no immediate threat to the wider public. We would ask members of the public to please stay away from the West Hoe area while we continue our investigation.
A police cordon is in place on West Hoe Road, and the road has been closed to traffic as investigations continue. Officers have also been seen near Maple Grove and Hamilton Gardens, where residents have been advised to stay indoors.

Residents and witnesses described a chaotic scene, with one local saying:
Awful what’s going on in Plymouth. Thoughts with the victims and my colleagues who are having to deal with it all.
Social media reports indicate more than ten police vehicles in the area, along with the ambulance service’s incident response unit.
