A major fire erupted in the early hours of Sunday morning at a block of flats on Crabble Road in Dover, prompting a large-scale emergency response and the evacuation of more than 40 homes.
Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) was called to the scene at 1:10am, where they were faced with a significant blaze involving a multi-storey residential building. A total of 12 fire engines and two height vehicles were deployed, along with the Technical Rescue team, to bring the fire under control.
On arrival, crews quickly began evacuating residents from 42 flats, ensuring all occupants were safely accounted for. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus worked throughout the night to battle the flames and prevent further spread.
The South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) attended the scene to provide medical support, with two individuals treated for smoke inhalation. Fortunately, no serious injuries have been reported.
The KFRS Volunteer Response Team was also on hand to provide welfare support to firefighters and assist those who had been forced to leave their homes. Meanwhile, Dover District Council is working to secure emergency accommodation for the displaced residents.
The cause of the fire is currently unknown, and a full investigation is underway.
A spokesperson for Kent Fire and Rescue Service said:
“Our crews responded swiftly to what was a complex and dangerous incident. Thanks to their efforts, all residents were safely evacuated and the fire was brought under control. Investigations into the cause are ongoing.”
Local authorities are urging anyone with information or relevant footage of the area around the time of the incident to contact the fire service or Kent Police.
Further updates are expected as the investigation continues.
