A significant fire broke out at a derelict building on Elmore Drive in Harrow late on Tuesday night, prompting a large-scale response from the London Fire Brigade.
Extent of the Fire
The blaze completely destroyed the ground and first floors of the building, while part of a single-storey side annexe was also damaged. Fortunately, there have been no reports of injuries.
Firefighting Efforts
A total of six fire engines and around 40 firefighters from stations including Stanmore, Harrow, and Mill Hill were dispatched to tackle the blaze. The London Fire Brigade’s 32-metre turntable ladders were deployed as water towers to combat the flames from above.
Emergency Response
The Brigade’s Control Officers received the first of 12 emergency calls at 10:53 pm, and crews swiftly mobilised to the scene. The fire was brought under control by 12:19 am, just under 90 minutes after the first call.
Cause of the Fire
The cause of the fire remains undetermined at this time, and fire investigators are continuing to examine the scene to determine the source and origin of the blaze.
Official Statement
A spokesperson for the London Fire Brigade said:
“Our crews worked swiftly to bring the fire under control and prevent it from spreading to nearby properties. We deployed specialist equipment, including two of our 32-metre turntable ladders, to tackle the flames from above.”
