A significant quantity of controlled drugs, believed to have an estimated street value exceeding £1 million, has been seized by officers in Midlothian following an intelligence-led operation. Two men have been charged in connection with the operation.
On Tuesday, September 12, 2023, officers conducted an operation targeting a property in the Danderhall area suspected of being involved in the production and distribution of illegal drugs.
Within the property, law enforcement discovered various items associated with the production of diazepam, including a pill press. Approximately 900,000 tablets believed to be diazepam were seized. Additionally, a range of other substances, in powder form, were found and are currently undergoing further forensic testing to determine their composition.
Two men, aged 42 and 60, were apprehended at the scene and subsequently charged. They are scheduled to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Thursday, September 14, 2023.
Detective Chief Inspector Bryan Burns commented on the operation, stating, “Officers uncovered a sophisticated criminal enterprise believed to have been producing vast quantities of illegal drugs. We have successfully seized a significant quantity of drugs and the means to produce more.”
He emphasised the continuous efforts of law enforcement officers to remove drugs from communities across Scotland and reiterated their commitment to utilising the Proceeds of Crime Act to deprive criminals of their ill-gotten gains.
